EASY MEAT SAUCE

By adding an extra touch of homemade marinara (via NYT), this meat sauce is super easy and satisfying for a weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil (i love Graza, use code MADDFOOD for $5 off!)

  • 1/2 or 1 shallot, diced

  • 93% or lower ground beef

  • 3/4 - all of NYT classic marinara (around 3 cups)

  • pinch of dried basil

  • pinch of dried parsley

  • pinch of dried oregano

  • salt & pepper

  • pasta and/or zoodles to serve

  • parm to serve

Step by Step

  1. Make the NYT Classic Marinara, let it come to room temperature.

  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat (I used All Clad stainless steel).

  3. Add diced shallot and saute until soft and slightly translucent.

  4. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon to your desired chunkiness. Add a pinch of salt and cook 90% through.

  5. Add the marinara sauce, one cup at a time, stirring to incorporate.

  6. Once all the marinara has been added, add your dried spices and mix. Taste for salt and pepper.

  7. Turn heat to low, and let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes.

I served mine with half zoodles and half bucatini, but any pasta type shape works! Always top with fresh grated parm.
